Occupation: Pest Control
What brought you to Baltimore Built? I was looking for a place to train after the move from Utah.
How long have you been a member at Baltimore Built? 2 months.
Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? If so, what sports and or activities did you participate in? I've been playing sports my whole life. I started playing basketball and softball when I was five. I played soccer for a season, but it was too much running for me. My father was also a bodybuilder and had me start lifting weights when I was 8. I also played rugby for a couple of seasons.
Were you weightlifting regularly prior to joining Baltimore Built? If so, what were you doing? I was. I started crossfit in 2016, which introduced me to weightlifting. I did my first meet in 2019, and started fully focusing on weightlifting instead of CrossFit at the end of 2021.
What do you like most about weightlifting? The journey, and how hard you have to work to get that extra 1% better.
What is your favorite lift and why? Snatch. When you hit it right, and everything locks in, it is the best feeling in the world.
What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at Baltimore Built? I got a 6kg PR on my back squat a couple of weeks ago.
What weightlifting goals do you have for the next year? I'm planning on going to AO, masters nationals, and hopefully qualify for AO finals next December.
How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym? Everything in my life basically revolves around performance in the gym. From counting everything that goes into my body, to going to bed at 8 sometimes just to be able to get 8 hours of sleep.Â
What hobbies and activities do you enjoy outside of the gym? I have a pretty wide array of interests. I like wakeboarding, snowboarding, one wheeling, playing basketball, and softball. I also enjoy playing video games. I have pretty much every console dating back to the Atari. But sometimes I also just like to sit outside in the silence with the wildlife and just relax.
